Melbourne Tourism Week: Melbourne in the spotlight
Melbourne Tourism Week, an initiative of Destination Melbourne, celebrates the value of the visitor economy and the businesses, which make our city not only liveable but visitable. Melbourne Tourism Week runs from Monday 4 September to Sunday 10 September.
“Destination Melbourne facilitates Melbourne Tourism Week to ensure that the visitor industry is informed with the very latest information and developments, and is inspired to continuously deliver exceptional and inclusive visitor experiences”, said Laura Cavallo, CEO, Destination Melbourne.
Melbourne Tourism Week comprises of a number of industry events including Destination Melbourne’s two leading events focused on extending the expertise and product delivery of Melbourne’s tourism businesses; and maximising Melbourne’s reputation as a food destination.
Tuesday 5th September: Destination Melbourne presents: Melbourne Tourism Industry Exchange [MTIE] at the MCG
In conjunction with our venue partner, the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne Tourism Industry Exchange is a large scale expo style event, allowing Greater Melbourne’s tourism attractions, experiences and businesses to exhibit their product to one and other and to over 400 guests who are customer facing professionals working with Melbourne’s visitors.
Friday 8th September: Destination Melbourne presents: The Ideas Feast
Destination Melbourne has partnered with cutting edge culinary venue, the Craft & Co to offer a valuable networking event with key tourism and hospitality guest speakers, over a gourmet luncheon. It is an opportunity to discuss how food is intrinsically linked with the authenticity and identity of a destination, and how food experiences influence visitors purchasing decisions, behaviour and overall spend. Our expert panellists will examine how we can attract more high yield visitors, and how the visitor economy can collaborate to maximise every opportunity that our enviable food reputation brings.

Wednesday 6th September – MPs4 Tourism Breakfast
VTIC’s MPs4 Tourism event offers industry professionals a rare opportunity to sit with elected officials and voice their concerns, highlight opportunities and share ideas.
Saturday 9 September and Sunday 10 September - Accessibility Weekend.
In its 13th year, the Accessibility Weekend sees attractions open their doors for free to people who uses a wheelchair and to their carer. Accessibility Weekend aims to highlight the importance of accessible communities and celebrates attractions who have made a commitment to providing access and inclusion to those with physical disabilities.
“During Melbourne Tourism Week, under the theme of Visitability Starts With Us, Destination Melbourne will be spearheading the charge to drive our visitor industry to work towards Melbourne being the World’s Most Visitable City alongside its World’s Most Liveable City title” said Ms Cavallo.

The visitor economy is a significant economic driver for Victoria and is a key contributor towards Melbourne’s growing economy, with more than $14.2 billion spent by international and domestic overnight visitors for the year ending March 2017.
