The Board Observer position enables one graduate of the award-winning Melbourne Tourism Leadership Program (MTLP) to undertake a 12-month position as a non-voting observer on the Destination Melbourne Board. The successful graduate observes meetings of the Destination Melbourne Board by attending six bi-monthly meetings.

During this period the MTLP Observer will learn about fundamental principles and functions of not for profit boards, the roles of board members, fiscal processes and other governance priorities. This program provides first-hand exposure of the role of a Board and its decision making, as well as targeted professional development to give the Observer important skills for their future careers as board members.

Since graduating from her double degree (Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce) majoring in Marketing and Human Resource Management. Lakshmi Cashmore was firmly focused on doing whatever it takes to grow and develop her tourism career.

Lakshmi was selected to participate in the International College Program at Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida, immersing her into one of the most customer service orientated destinations in the world. Not only did her role help her grow as a professional, it inspired her to reach higher, for herself, her career and her contribution to Melbourne as a world class destination.

In 2017 Lakshmi completed Destination Melbourne award-wining Melbourne Tourism Leadership Program (MTLP) and has taken on a Masters of Marketing to gain the highest qualification possible to develop her profession.

Lakshmi said, “I am seeking this position as a Board Observer to take on a new challenge which can help me broaden my experience, build new working relationships and leverage future opportunities.”

Lakshmi is an enthusiastic worker with a commitment to the tourism industry. We thank her for her voluntary participation as the Board Observer and we wish her well in her career.

Lakshmi spoke enthusiastically about MTLP, encouraging others to complete the program, and the new MTLP Executive program for senior leaders in the industry.

"I couldn’t speak more highly of the leadership program. MTLP has changed the way I think in both a personal and business sense. It has given me the tools to be more confident in myself, my abilities and my future."
