Melbourne named in top 10 wine destinations

Wine Enthusiast, the USA’s leading wine lifestyle publication for American readers has released its most anticipated travel feature, the 10 Best Wine Getaways.

Melbourne has been featured in the top ten listing, alongside cities from popular wine growing regions in France, Spain and Tuscany. The Melbourne featurette will reach over 2.5 million American readers through the print magazine and digital platforms.

The Melbourne featurette describes the world’s most liveable city favourably. “Australia’s second-largest city, which consistently ranks as one of the most liveable in the world, provides something for everyone. For wine and food lovers, Melbourne has top-notch offerings on par with the world’s best gastronomic cities.”

Executive Editor Susan Kostrzewa said “This year’s list reflects the diversity and global reach of wine tourism today”. Hand-selected by the editors of Wine Enthusiast, this year's top travel destination list is aimed at American wine lovers’ eager to take their passion for what's in the glass on the road.

In the year ending September 2017, visitors to Victoria from the USA increased by 9.4% to 223.4 thousand and spent $337 million.

A number of Melbourne dining and wine hot spots are recommended to American readers, including Coda, Osteria Ilaria, City Wine Shop, Embla, Cumulus Inc., Minamishima and Sosta Cucina.

The 10 Best Wine Getaways of 2018 features a diverse group of both established, historical wine-producing regions, and beach-adjacent locales and urban hotspots across six continents.

The February edition of Wine Enthusiast carrying the Melbourne featurette will hit newsstands across the USA this week.
