Architectural firm, Caulfield Krivanek, has developed a design concept for a potential cable car system that would connect Flinders Street Station and AAMI Park stadium, providing both a new tourism attraction and a transport alternative.
The firm says that the concept is gaining both interest and momentum.
Could this be the future for Melbourne?
In a recent article by The Gondola Project, it was revealed that the Melbourne system would be designed at a length of 2.5km, including 4 stations and 1 custom tower.
Although a detailed feasibility study has not been conducted at this time, it is understood that the system is designed to attract both visitors and commuters. 100m above the city streets, riders would take in views of the Yarra River, Melbourne Cricket Ground and city skyline.
Caulfield Krivanek hopes to create both a genuine alternative to car travel as well as a world class tourist attraction.
