Labor MP John Eren, who holds the tourism, sports, veterans and major events portfolios, has announced he will step down from cabinet to focus on his family and his health.
With a cabinet reshuffle looming in the wake of Labor’s landslide election victory on the weekend, the member for the Geelong-based seat of Lara announced late on Monday night he would step down.
In a detailed statement, Mr Eren said he looked forward to continuing to work as part of the re-elected Andrews government and said his journey into politics was "an example of the opportunities that this country can create for migrants to our great state".
"I am proud of our legacy in creating Visit Victoria. We now lead the way nationally with a strong Visitor Economy creating 25,000 new jobs in the industry since 2014," said Eren.
