Victoria will be home to a second, curfew free international Airport boosting the visitor economy and creating more jobs in tourism, and other industries.
Minister for Tourism, John Eren joined Minister for Industry and Employment, Ben Carroll to announce that Air Asia will fly twice daily between Avalon and Kuala Lumpur, with flights expected by the end of 2018.
The project will see up to 220,000 international passengers land in Avalon each year, opening up Geelong and the Great Ocean Road to even more international visitors and creating a new gateway to Melbourne.
“We’re so proud to have secured the first ever international service for Avalon – attracting thousands more visitors and bringing more business to our region” said Minister Eren.
This project will have significant economic and social benefits for Victoria and Melbourne through increased tourism, new employment opportunities, and improved access to international flights.
