Board Opportunity - Destination Melbourne

Sarah Seddon, Chair of Destination Melbourne is currently seeking expressions of interest from passionate, committed professionals with strong, senior level experience to join our board. 

It’s an exciting time to join the Board as we are developing our new three-year strategic plan which will be in place by December 2018.

As champions of the visitor industry and with a firm lens on putting the ‘Visitor First’, our three core pillars are:

  1. Connection
  2. Building Capability and Capacity of and for the industry
  3. Visitability

As we embark on a period of business transformation, we’re specifically seeking individuals who have a strong interest in the future development of Greater Melbourne’s visitor economy and are from the following key sectors: local government, major events and education. Or with specific skills in business transformation and commercialisation of new products and services.

The Destination Melbourne board meets bi-monthly (six times per year) and directors are expected to prepare for meetings, contribute their time, share their networks and attend events/special meetings. Board directorships are voluntary, unpaid positions, appointed for a three year term.

About Destination Melbourne

Destination Melbourne is an independent tourism organisation which has been in operation since 2001.  It occupies a key leadership role across Greater Melbourne’s visitor industry working towards maximising the city’s visitor potential from the CBD to outer metropolitan areas. The organisation operates as a not for profit company, limited by guarantee, employing 22 passionate professionals.

Selection Criteria

Experience and knowledge of the following will be highly regarded:

  • Comprehensive understanding of corporate governance (board or senior management level)
  • Strategic thinker and the ability to exercise independent judgement
  • Commitment to conscientiously fulfil the duties and responsibilities of directorship
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Proven business acumen
  • Specific experience in either local government, major events, education and/or engagement with Melbourne’s visitor industry
  • Specific skills in business transformation, commercialisation of new products and services
  • Relevant industry connections and networks
  • Preparedness to engage and contribute to Destination Melbourne’s ongoing growth and strategic development

Expressions of interest need to include a current resume, two referees and a letter that addresses the key selection criteria above.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by key members of the Destination Melbourne board.
