The AUS-X Open — the biggest international Supercross event outside the US — will head to Melbourne in November.
A three-year deal to make Melbourne the home of the event has been announced, with the world’s best daredevil riders to compete at Marvel Stadium.
Sellout crowds have flocked to the event in Sydney since 2015, but Melbourne has stolen the rights to the event with a view to more than double crowd sizes, with 40,000 expected at this year’s maiden Marvel Stadium showpiece. Sports Minister Martin Pakula said the Andrews Government secured the event to further bolster the state’s major-event credentials and attract tourists from interstate and overseas: “Victoria is unmatched as the sporting and event capital of Australia and we’re so excited to bring the AUS-X Open to a world-class venue like Marvel Stadium. Major events such as the AUS-X Open are hugely important to our visitor economy, generating around $1.8 billion and helping to drive Melbourne’s reputation as one of the world’s best tourist destinations.”
The AUS-X Open will be staged on November 30, with tickets on sale from May 13.
