CEO message - March 2019 - The Art of Collaboration

As we move into the cooler season, the DM team is looking forward to hosting our leading tourism conference, Destination Melbourne LIVE in May. The industry development team are uniquely curating content that is designed to inspire, provoke and transform the way we work together in our industry.

Every year, the conference is designed around a contemporary theme; this year we have decided to focus on Collaboration. For several years now we have heard repeatedly that businesses need to collaborate more to offer strong value propositions, minimise expenses, create greater innovation and speed up delivery to market. We decided that it’s important to do a deep dive into collaboration, by highlighting local and international case studies of destinations and businesses that have achieved great results by embracing the concept.

As we all know, visitors no longer want a “one size fits all” approach; they want access to meaningful, unique and bespoke experiences. Their needs are complex and changing, giving rise to the need for intelligent, co-creative approaches to ensure an integrated, personalised and seamless visitor experience.

The Destination Melbourne LIVE conference champions this on all fronts. Our international keynote speaker is Lior Meyer, the Deputy CEO of Tel Aviv Global & Tourism. During Meyer’s seven years at Tel Aviv Global Tourism, he has worked closely with industry leaders, travel tech start-ups and local and national tourism authorities on creating cross-industry collaboration. Meyer has also led the implementation of the hi-tech Smart Tourism Initiative, which has assisted in three consecutive record-breaking tourism years for Tel Aviv. Meyer’s keynote session will share his insights and address the ways in which tech innovation and tourism collaboration has transformed the city of Tel Aviv.

Similarly, keynote speaker and well-renowned collaboration consultant, mentor and author Janine Garner is passionate about changing the mindset of business professionals, from “me” to “we”. Garner believes that in today’s complex marketplace, the adaptive and collaborative approaches to business strategy and the ability to network and connect is more important than ever. “When we bring brilliant people together, we can create extraordinary results. Together we can ultimately achieve so much more than anyone can ever do alone,” she stresses.

I encourage you to consider attending our conference, as we will be presenting inspirational thought leaders outside of the tourism sector to challenge our ideas and thinking. Click here to learn more about the program and speakers.
